About the band.

The band

Music & Entertainment demo began in a one-bedroom flat in Hackney in 2017 with two members and a borrowed mixer. The first album — First Light — was self-released that May, on Bandcamp, with no expectations. It made it to BBC 6 Music two months later. The second album, Salt + Static, released March 2020, two weeks before the pandemic shut everything down. The third, The Long Walk, in October 2022, was the first to top the UK Independent chart. The fourth, Aurora Borealis, is out now.

The current touring band is six people. The studio band is closer to ten, depending on the record. Beatrix Park, our founding cellist, has played on every release.

Why this music

The early records came out of an interest in the spaces between minimalism, drone, and singer-songwriter folk — what you can do when you take three of those forms and try to find what they have in common. Aurora Borealis is the fourth iteration of that question.

How we work

We try to record in a single physical place — usually small studios with old gear. Aurora Borealis was recorded twice: once at Greenhouse in Reykjavík and once at Funkhaus in Berlin. We released the stitch.

We don’t use streaming-first arrangements. Most of the records are written for the live set first, then translated to the recorded version. Songs change shape between the LP and the tour version, sometimes substantially.
