About the maker
Alfaiataria Castelo was founded in 1962 by Henrique Castelo in a small atelier in Porto. The current cutting team — Henrique’s grandson Tiago, plus four cutters and seven sewers — averages 24 years of tailoring experience. Every Aurora jacket is hand-cut from a single layer of fabric; no laser, no automation in the cutting room.
Why we stock it
We worked with Tiago for 14 months on the cut before we offered the first piece for sale. The melton is heavy enough to drape correctly without padding, and the horn buttons are sourced from a small workshop in Cesenatico that has been making them since 1908. Our customers reorder this jacket more than any other in our outerwear category.
Maker margin
Castelo earns $167 per jacket (51%). We earn $79 (24%). The remainder goes to fabric, lining, hardware, shipping, and platform fees. We disclose this on every product page because it’s the most direct way to show that ‘independent maker’ isn’t a marketing line.
Reviews — Aurora jacket
Two winters in. Cleaned once. Looks better now than the day it arrived.

The drape is the difference. I have three other wool jackets and this is the only one that holds its shape after a long day.

Sleeve length was a half-inch long for me. Free hem service, turned around in 48 hours, no charge. Hard to argue with that level of service.
