Founded 2007. Still in Brooklyn.
Twenty-two on staff. Six architects, three engineers, ten in the field, three running the office. We work on roughly twelve projects at any time.
How we got here
The studio started in 2007 with one project — a townhouse renovation for a friend — and one rule: do every project the way we’d do a project for a friend. Take fewer clients. Pay more attention. Don’t hand off after drawings.
Eighteen years and three hundred and ten projects later, that’s still our north star. We’ve grown enough to handle 22,000-sqft commercial adaptive-reuse work, but we’ve resisted growing past the point where a senior architect could lose track of any active project.
What makes us different
Most architects don’t build what they design. Most contractors don’t draw. Doing both means the people responsible for the schedule are the same people who set the spec — which means we don’t spec things we can’t buy or build on time. It also means when something goes wrong in the field, the design conversation happens that day instead of a week later.
We’re a 100% employee-owned cooperative. Every full-time employee with three+ years tenure owns a share. Decisions about which projects to take are made by a partnership committee that votes. There’s no founder bonus structure that incentivises taking work we shouldn’t.
What we won’t do
- Spec houses or developer projects where the user is unknown.
- Projects with budgets that don’t support the build the design wants. We’ll tell you up front and walk away.
- Hospitality + retail where the brand is offensive to staff. Our employees vote on commercial intake.
