The Atelier

Cut in Tuscany. Designed in London. Sold direct.

Founded 2018. Two ateliers, eighteen people, three collections a year. We’d rather be small + good than big + tired.

How we got here

Fashion & Beauty demo was founded in 2018 in a one-room studio above a butcher in Hackney. Two of us — a former Margaret Howell pattern cutter and an ex-Warby Parker product manager. The first collection was five pieces, made in 80 units, sold in five days direct from the studio.

Seven years later: two ateliers (Florence and Porto), eighteen on staff, twelve pieces a season. The studio above the butcher is still our HQ. The butcher moved.

What we believe

  • Slow and small is the only way fashion gets better. We won’t expand into accessories, fragrance, or eyewear. We make clothes.
  • Deadstock is a virtue, not a constraint. The world doesn’t need new fabric — it needs better use of the fabric already woven.
  • Repairs are infrastructure. Every piece is designed to be repairable; every piece comes with a free-repairs-forever commitment.
  • Stockists matter. We sell direct + through 28 hand-picked stockists. We won’t list on Amazon, eBay, marketplaces, or dropship platforms.

Why two ateliers

Tuscany cuts our wool, tailoring, and outerwear — every piece in those categories is hand-finished by people who’ve been making coats for thirty years. Porto cuts our cotton, linen, and lighter pieces — the workshop there is run by a former Margaret Howell production manager who knows exactly how a poplin should fall.
